The Empty Nesters who own this house wanted updates that reflected their love of streamlined, clean and modern design. The project included an update of the Master Bath and a build out of the Basement level to accommodate an Accessory Dwelling Unit.  The ADU would provide them with a future rental income stream and could eventually be used as a downsized residence for the Owners while the main house is rented. Convertible furniture and storage is built in at one main wall and designed to fold up when not in use.  The kitchen is a sleek and compact walk-through with built in fridge, single drawer dishwasher, pull out pantry and mini cooktop.  A new entry to the ADU is recessed into the back patio, creating a seamless and private connection to the street.  This project is nominated for a City of Piedmont Design Award and is included in the City of Piedmont “Best Practices” handout for ADU design.
