This new home purchase had the benefit of high ceilings and large windows, but had sunk eleven inches in one corner, requiring a complete foundation replacement. We opted to dig into the basement level while redoing the foundation, transforming this area into a comfortable family room, two additional bedrooms, a new bath and laundry room. A new stairwell connects the main house to the new basement.  Every inch of the house is leveraged for space; a daybed/reading nook is installed under the stair. Bedding is stored in a drawer hidden behind a baseboard. Continuing the theme of incorporating old and new, the home is furnished with family heirlooms from Thailand, Germany, and China alongside modern pieces. The resulting residence has doubled the original footprint and combines historic and modern elements for a look that exudes warmth and comfort.
